Politecnico Torino

The Department of Production Systems and Management (DSPEA) combines theoretical, experimental and applied research approaches. A focus on regional issues is combined with a particularly international orientation of its research activities. DSPEA works in close cooperation with universities from Europe and the U.S.; e.g. M.I.T., Boston (U.S.A.), LSE (U.K.), TU Darmstadt (D), universities of Cambridge, Oxford, Nottingham and Manchester (U.K.), Asian Institute of Technology and others. DSPEA research focuses on three areas: a) manufacturing processes and systems; b) product modelling, design and metrology; c) business and industrial economics. It offers a range of degree programmes in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, logistics and production engineering and organisation. Furthermore it offers the post-graduate degree in engineering and collaborates in PhD courses on metrology, industrial engineering and management. Recently the department has set up the “Vilfredo Pareto School of Economics and Management”, which provides a new structure for combining research and teaching.

The Third School of Engineering - Information Technologies - is the centre of the teaching activities related to electronics, computing, telecommunications and telematics, methods of communication, automation, mechatronics, nanotechnologies for ICT and physical engineering.

Within the Dpt. Of Automation and Information Tech., the Internet Media Group, focuses on multimedia processing and transmission research (advanced techniques for applications such as streaming, videoconferencing, voice over IP and online gaming - for wired, Wi-Fi, cellular, mesh, ad hoc and intervehicular networks). The Internet Media Group directly contributes to both the free software and the free culture movements.
